Clearing Land for RV Pads, Campsites & Seasonal Camps in Central New York

Every summer we get calls from landowners who want to turn a wooded corner of their property, a lakefront lot, or a back field into a usable campsite or RV pad. Whether it’s for family gatherings, a seasonal camp, or a spot to park a camper for the season, the land almost always needs work before it’s ready — and that’s where land clearing comes in.

What It Takes to Turn Raw Land Into a Campsite

Most properties we clear for camping or RV use across Wayne, Cayuga, Seneca, Oswego, Monroe, and Onondaga counties aren’t flat, open ground to start. They’re overgrown fence lines, brushy field edges, or wooded lots with thick undergrowth. Before anyone can park a camper, pitch a tent, or run utilities, that vegetation has to come out and the ground has to be workable.

1. Brush Hogging the Site

Our first pass is usually brush hogging to knock down tall grass, saplings, and low brush across the whole footprint of the planned site. This gives us a clear look at the actual ground — roots, low spots, rock, and slope — that photos and walk-throughs don’t always reveal.

2. Land Clearing for the Pad Itself

For an RV pad or tent site, we clear a defined area down to bare, usable ground — removing brush, small trees, and root systems that would otherwise buckle a level pad over time. We’re careful to leave mature shade trees standing where clients want them; a good campsite usually keeps a few big trees for shade rather than clearing wall to wall.

3. Grading for a Level, Drainable Pad

An RV needs a level surface, and every site needs water to drain away rather than pool. Our grading and backhoe work levels the pad and pitches it slightly so rain runs off instead of turning the site into mud. This step matters even more for seasonal camps that see the same spot used year after year.

4. Hauling Off the Debris

Cut brush, root balls, and cleared material don’t have to sit in a pile at the edge of your new campsite. Our hauling service removes it from the property entirely, so the site looks finished rather than half-cleared.

Access Matters as Much as the Pad

A great campsite is useless if you can’t get a camper or truck to it. We often clear and grade the access lane at the same time as the site itself — widening tight spots, knocking down overhanging brush, and smoothing ruts so towing a trailer in isn’t a battle every time. If you’re planning a food plot or garden near the camp as well, we can till that area in the same visit.

Planning Ahead for Fall and Hunting Season

Early August is a good time to get this work scheduled. Ground conditions are typically dry and stable, which makes clearing and grading go faster, and it gets the site ready well before cooler weather and hunting season bring more traffic to camps across Central New York. Waiting until September often means a longer queue and less flexibility on timing.

Every site is different — some need a full clear-and-grade, others just need brush knocked back and an access lane opened up. We’ll walk the property with you, talk through what you want the space to become, and give you a flat-rate price before any work starts. No hourly billing, no surprises.
